In my experience, the secret to improving creative problem-solving abilities in STEM fields has been to embrace an interdisciplinary approach and engage in ongoing learning. Other effective strategies have included obtaining feedback on a regular basis and collaborating with varied groups. But I've discovered that an excessive attention to detail may choke down creativity. Embracing failure as an opportunity for learning and not being afraid of attempting something new are two tips that really helped me. This change in mindset led to more creative approaches to tackling problems.
