Your opportunity

At New Relic, docs are essential to our product experience. Our docs team members are technologists, word lovers, outstanding writers, and fabulous people. They need a fantastic manager.

We love learning and working together to create best-in-class docs. We care deeply for the people we manage. And technology and data make our blood race. If that sounds as exciting to you as it does to us, let's talk!

What you'll do
  • You'll recruit, onboard, and build a new team of writers. You'll partner with the rest of our global docs team and docs leaders to ensure a consistent strategy, voice, and process for docs. And you'll advocate for our users, as we build cool, useful docs that make users better at their jobs.
  • Recruit, support, mentor, and retain writers.
  • Edit and review writer's work to ensure a consistent voice and tone.
  • Own prioritization for docs work within your team, and make excellent trade-off decisions on behalf of users and the business.
  • Guide a collaborative, agile team as they write, improve, and architect our docs.
  • Design quarterly goals and content strategy that connect your team's work to the broader vision.
  • Partner with product managers, engineering managers, and other stakeholders to solve problems and keep our team aligned and on track.
This role requires
  • You've managed documentation teams and complex projects at a SaaS software company. 8+ years of experience managing writers, and 12+ years as a writer.
  • You've built a documentation team from scratch in your career.
  • You have a strong grasp of the product and technology you and your team write about. You are comfortable to demo the product to internal and external stakeholders.
  • You've managed projects in an agile environment.
  • You know how developers think and communicate, and what tools they rely on and love. Our products are built by devs for devs!
  • You genuinely care for your people, and you'll mentor our writers to take their careers and skills to new heights.
  • You're practiced in collaborating across a global team—we have writers in the US, Europe, and India.`
  • You've got a strong opinion about the Oxford comma.
  • You're a thoughtful writer and editor.
Bonus points if you have
  • Knowledge of the observability industry or SRE practices, and familiarity with the tools like Kubernetes or AWS used to build modern platforms.
  • You’re fascinated by the possibility of technology and aren’t afraid to try things out for yourself. You’re not afraid to read some code and try to make sense of it.
  • You've edited and authored content in a static, GitHub-based site.
