Your opportunity
At New Relic, docs are a core component of the product experience. Our words bring life and personality to our products. We're here to help users understand our platform, onboard, and ultimately become power users. Our writing helps our users build better software and love our products even more.

Do you like talking docs as much as you love writing them? You'll join a team of passionate writers looking to do the best work of their careers, united by a curiosity for the finer points of writing and technology. If that sounds as exciting to you as it does to us, let's talk!

What you'll do
  • Write, edit, and architect our docs, looking for ways to dramatically improve them. Ensure the content gets our users all the info they need, without too much info getting in the way.
  • Use your writing as a model for other writers. Mentor less senior members of the team.
  • Scope and ship documentation for our most complex, cross-functional features. You see the value in our products, not just the features, and create docs that show off that value.
  • Clarify complexity for your audience, regardless of who that audience is. Speak to developers (or business owners) in a language they can understand, and write approachable technical documentation for complex concepts.
  • Work in-person and remotely with a global, highly-collaborative team of writers.
  • You discover gaps and opportunities, and lead team discussions on topics from voice and tone to improving our processes. You lead multi-writer efforts to tackle our biggest problems and opportunities.
This role requires
  • Well-established experience as a technical writer for an agile software company.
  • Exemplary technical writing skills. You cut quickly through jargon, write and rewrite until your meaning is crystal-clear, and inject a bit of humanity too.
  • You're passionate about software, and you can prove it. You get hands-on with your tools and software and make them work for you. You can read and write some code—you're not a developer, but you know enough to ask the right questions.
  • You've used analytics, data, or user research to plan projects and measure the success of your docs, as well as identifying gaps in that data.
  • An authority at organizing information in an easy-to-understand hierarchy, knowing that layout and content design helps relay information to readers.
  • Plan, lead, and manage projects in an Agile team. For the largest projects, you coordinate and lead the work of other writers.
  • Experience working with software developers, so you know how developers think and communicate. Our products are built by devs for devs!
  • Proven techniques for giving and receiving feedback on writing, based on a shared style guide. You help guide and promote writing best practices.
  • A strong opinion about the Oxford comma.
Bonus points if you have
  • Experience authoring content in a static, GitHub-based site.
  • Deep knowledge of the observability industry or SRE practices, and familiarity with the tools like Kubernetes or AWS used to build modern platforms.
