Creating Inclusive Tech Cultures: Leadership Lessons from GE HealthCare
Creating Inclusive Tech Cultures: Leadership Lessons from GE HealthCare

This October, GE HealthCare hosted its Women in Technology Annual Conference.  The day featured panel discussions, keynote insights, and global networking sessions, all focused on empowering technology professionals and advancing GE HealthCare’s purpose – creating a world where healthcare has no limits.

We asked a few of the esteemed speakers, who are leaders across the organization, to share insights as leaders shaping the future of technology.

Question: What lessons have you learned as a woman executive in tech?

The following lessons I have learned over the years are critical to success:

    • Speak up since your perspective and views are critical to the success of the business.  Without the diverse views of leaders with different experiences and cultures, companies will not grow fast. This also inspires others to help drive systematic change.

    • Say yes to stretch opportunities even before you are 100% ready, then build the right team, listen to understand, and learn in the open.

    • It is critical to create a psychologically safe team—sponsor talent, share credit, and give direct timely feedback with care.

    • Don’t be overly critical of yourself.

Question: How have you navigated challenges in your career journey?

Navigating challenges in my career has been a journey of resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning. From my tenure as Global 1.5T MR Segment GM to my current position as MR Chief Technology Officer, I’ve faced complex decisions that required balancing innovation with operational execution. Leading global teams taught me the importance of fostering collaboration across cultures and time zones, especially during periods of rapid technological change. When confronted with uncertainty—whether market shifts or organizational transformations—I focused on reframing obstacles as opportunities to drive growth and strengthen team capabilities. Mentorship and diverse perspectives have been invaluable in shaping strategies that deliver impact while maintaining agility. Above all, staying connected to our mission of improving lives through imaging innovation has kept me motivated and grounded. These experiences reinforced my belief that challenges are not roadblocks, but stepping stones toward building stronger leaders and inclusive teams.

Question: What role do mentorship and visibility play in career success?

Mentorship and visibility are both critical to advancing your career.  Having mentors in strategic areas of the company, whose work complements your subject matter expertise, can give you additional visibility into key priorities and projects in areas that can expand your growth path.  I recommend looking for mentors involved in large projects or initiatives you are part of who have cross-functional teams that you would naturally work with in your current role.

Visibility matters just as much. Doing great work is essential, but ensuring others see your impact helps amplify your work.  Ask for, and take, opportunities to present your work in team meetings, town halls, or industry forums.  The more you do this, the more natural it will become. Approach these moments not as self-promotion but as highlighting how you helped your team or company solve a meaningful challenge.  In my experience, people who are viewed as problem solvers gain credibility and traction in their career growth.
