HTML/CSS

HTML/CSS are fundamental technologies used to create and design web pages and are considered essential skills for several job roles within the tech sector. They fall under the Tech Skills category on the WomenTech Network job portal.

HTML (HyperText Markup Language) is a standard markup language with which all the structure of a web page is created. It involves learning to use various tags and attributes correctly to create, organize, and format different web-based content.

CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is a stylesheet language used to describe the look and formatting of a document written in HTML. It adds style (fonts, colors, layout, etc.) to web pages and interfaces created using HTML. With CSS, you can control the layout of multiple webpages simultaneously and adjust the display for different types of devices (like screens, printers, or speech synthesizers).

Employers often look for applicants proficient in HTML/CSS for job roles such as Front-End Developer, Web Developer, UX/UI Designer, and others. Proficiency in HTML/CSS signifies understanding how to create a structurally solid, visually pleasing, and user-friendly webpage. Candidates should be able to write, understand, debug, and maintain HTML/CSS code efficiently. Knowledge of SEO principles, website speed optimization, responsive design, and compatibility across different browsers is typically sought after.

Several related skills and technologies can serve as a foundation for learning HTML/CSS or enhance your proficiency in them. Having a basic understanding of the Internet and web browsing is a good starting point. Knowledge of Web Design principles helps to create effective and attractive web pages. Other useful skills include knowledge of JavaScript to make your web pages dynamic and interactive; a version control system like Git for tracking changes in your source code during software development; and experience with frameworks such as Bootstrap or Foundation can help speed up web development. Furthermore, understanding basics of UI/UX design will help in creating more user-friendly websites.

Mastering HTML/CSS provides a critical foundation for many advanced technologies and disciplines, such as JavaScript, front-end frameworks (like Angular, React, and Vue.js), back-end programming, and more. Any digital professional aiming to create or manage web content would greatly benefit from gaining proficiency in HTML/CSS.
