Session: How to Lead Tech Teams as a Non-Techie
When you’re leading tech teams but you don't have an engineering background, what should you be focusing on to be successful? As a former journalist who switched her career into tech (via MBA), Hitomi shares her experience and lessons learned.
- Understanding how tech people think, behave and operate.
- Knowing the right technical details.
- Keeping a strategic head and serving as a bridge between your tech teams and other stakeholders.
Hitomi is a Product Manager at Sony managing news media solutions. She focuses on digitalisation and agile transformation of traditional businesses, especially in the media sector.
Her journey began as a journalist reporting for TV broadcasters in Japan, eventually becoming a Head of News focusing on audience engagement strategies on multiple distribution channels. After a Cambridge MBA, she transformed her career to the tech side of the media industry and joined a scaled startup in the media space.
Growing up in a traditional society, she was always a weird one with career aspirations "like men's". She is an advocate for encouraging young women to pursue their career aspirations.
