Encouraging participation in women-centric STEM organizations and events can foster a sense of community and belonging, making the mentorship process more enriching for both mentors and mentees.

"You cannot hope to build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end, each of us must work for our own improvement and, at the same time, share a general responsibility for all humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be most useful." This quote by Marie Curie emphasizes the responsibility of individuals to contribute to the improvement of others, which aligns with the role of mentors in guiding and supporting mentees in their STEM careers.

I have been a mentor since some time now, 3 or 4 years. I fully agree that this is an enriching experience for both sides. A win for both sides, an exchange of knowledge, expertise, experience. All my matches have been a success so far! I am enjoying each mentor experience with my full heart. As tech people, especially women are my clients, I fully support your opinion that women in tech need a lot of support, encouragement, empowerment to handle themselves and their way through tech. They need to know that there is someone there when they need or they doubt. They need a safe space to share, doubt, ask. As I noticed, one of the hardest thing is to be visible, to allow themselves to be visible, shift and build a strong mindset that they are amazing. However, mentoring is a dance too! So it depends on their perspective and expectations.

What has worked for me as a mentor is understanding 1. Mentee's current need 2. Mentee's current problem statement 3. Mentee's current situation at office and home 3. Devising a collaborative plan for an improvement and change, next following through the plan to make adjustments based on the status at the point of time to achieve the goal. You can use SMART framework and periodic check-ins with the Mentee. Mentorship is not a one way road rather is a continuous process but rewarding one, some times Mentees give up and so need a cheer leader to help them move the needle. Once an Mentee moves the needle, it gives immense joy to Mentor.
