Inclusion is not only about who is hired into an AI team, but also about whose voice carries weight once they are there. A team can look diverse on paper and still make decisions from a very narrow perspective if some people do not feel able to challenge assumptions or influence direction.

I think leaders have an important role in creating environments where people can question decisions, raise concerns and bring different perspectives without feeling that they need to conform to the dominant view. This is particularly important in AI, where seemingly small assumptions made during product development can affect thousands or even millions of users.

For me, a genuinely inclusive AI team is one where diversity is reflected not just in representation, but in who gets heard, who influences decisions, and whose experiences shape the final product.
