The Role:


Rakuten Kobo Inc. is looking for a Kobo Writing Life (KWL) and Content Sales Manager for Italy, reporting to the Director of Catalogue, Europe.

Responsibilities include:

  • Play a key role in the growth of the eBook and audiobook markets in Italy by merchandising and marketing content across all platforms and products
  • Employ a full array of reporting tools to inform title placement and selection on site, apps, and in marketing materials
  • Work closely with publishers and partners to execute initiatives and create marketing campaigns and measure results to inform sales strategy to maximize net sales
  • Develop and manage Kobo's self-publishing business (Kobo Writing Life) in Italy
  • Work directly with local indie publishers and authors (providing support, conducting business reviews, coordinating promotional opportunities)
  • Manage various KWL communication channels (newsletter, social media, blog) and participate in self-publishing events (workshops, panels)

Note: The KWL and Content Sales Manager position will be 100% remote, based in Italy

The Person:

  • You are a relationship builder and a natural communicator who loves the world of publishing, reading and writing in the digital era.
  • You know what authors, publishers, retailers and customers care about.
  • You feel comfortable in a team but can get things done on your own. The idea of a virtual office spread across countries and time zones doesn’t scare you.
  • You can build a budget, project, process, or releases’ plan.
  • You mix good instincts with quantitative skills, and you can apply business acumen to creative processes. You can throw serious heat with Excel if required.
  • You have ideas and like to take initiative
  • You are highly organized and can handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • You know how to assess issues and can suggest solutions to solve them.

The Skillset:

  • 3-5 years of relevant industry experience (publishing, self-publishing preferred)
  • Experience in digital publishing/marketing
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Creative problem-solver with strong communication skills
  • Fluency in Italian and English; comfortable in at least one other language a plus
  • Minimum BA/BS
  • Booklover. An interest in writing is a plus
