CIFS Kernel Engineer

We are looking for a software engineer to develop and maintain the cifs.ko kernel file system module and related user space tools. You will be a part of an engineering team responsible for various Windows network interoperability software, including cifs.ko, samba, and sssd, as well as ldap.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop enhancements for the cifs kernel file system module and related tools, working with our enterprise Linux team, community, and upstream.
  • Provide engineering support for our enterprise customer support team as needed
  • Provide input to QA and documentation teams
  • Participate with the team in developing maintaining development, debugging, testing tools and CI infrastructure specific to the team
  • Work across teams as required

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience in kernel development

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Linux kernel development, preferably in file systems
  • crash and gdb debuggers
  • network protocol, preferably SMB, development and debugging
  • network protocol analysis using Wireshark or tcpdump
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; proficient in English. Ability to effectively communicate design proposals and negotiate options.
