Director of Software Architecture

As the Director of Software Architecture, you will proactively and holistically lead Tideworks through transformation and optimization initiatives.

As Tideworks continues our transformation journey, we will look to you for innovative ideas, leadership tactics, and informed perspectives on how best to plan, design, innovate, orchestrate, facilitate, navigate and operationalize the products we have today and in the future to drive critical outcomes.

Software Architecture

  • Drive software architecture best practices and lead the development of a strategic software value proposition, implementation plan and execution of the software architecture parts of our roadmap.
  • Enable strategy formulation, and as support for technology innovation, drive the organization’s top and bottom lines.
  • Lead the creation and maturing of the architecture practice into an internal management consultancy.

Formulate Strategy, Guide Execution & Facilitate Innovation

  • Understand disruptive forces and Tideworks’ economic and financial levers that are susceptible to transformation to effectively guide software and technology investment decisions.
  • Lead analysis of Tideworks’ future-state software capabilities and environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement to drive the organization and our clients forward.
  • Provide perspective on the readiness of the organization to change and innovate.
  • Use planning-driven, design-driven, and learning-driven approaches to construct future- and current-state architectural models.
  • Run technology experiments for new software products and services and guide the integration of the best of these into steady-state operations for the organization.

Build and Maintain Relationships

  • Determine relationships between people, processes, information, and software, and their relationships to one another and to the external environment.
  • Lead and facilitate interaction with leaders, product managers and product owners regarding risks and implications of architectural decisions.
  • Leads a collaborative “guild” of architects to resolve conflicts.
  • Collaborates with agile teams to ensure consistency with the software architecture strategy, as well as to leverage shared technologies, tools and processes that impact speed to value and time to market.

Job Qualifications

The right person will bring some combination of the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:

  • Familiarity with information management practices, system development life cycle management, services management, agile and lean methodologies, infrastructure and operations, architectural models and ITIL frameworks.
  • Knowledge of all components of software development, engineering, and architecture.
  • Knowledge of business models, operating models, financial models, cost-benefit analysis, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Exceptional soft and interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation.
  • Exceptional leadership, analytical and technical skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to articulate new ideas and concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to balance the long-term (“big picture”) and short-term implications of individual decisions and organization goals.
  • Ready to think, behave and act in an innovative consulting manner to drive the organization’s software strategies to exceed client needs.
  • Seven years of direct work experience as a Technical or Enterprise Architect, with a focus on software development.

There is also paved trail access for walking and biking from West Seattle and the SODO neighborhood.
