About the Role: 

Wing is looking for a Hardware Engineer to join our Reliability team based in Palo Alto.  You will be responsible for defining and developing reliability tests for new and existing hardware using sound technical judgment and statistics.  You will work cross-functionally to assess hardware reliability and durability, recommend design improvements, and investigate issues.  This position is an opportunity to combine analysis, hands-on laboratory work, and program management to improve our system hardware.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work cross-functionally with diverse teams of engineers, operators, and manufacturers to define and execute reliability and durability tests for system hardware
  • Define testing plans and coordinate schedules with remote vendors in order to get useful results in time to assess reliability performance and make informed recommendations
  • Bringup and audit reliability test capabilities at the vendor labs
  • Identify or develop new test hardware and analysis tools to support reliability verification efforts
  • Collaborate with development teams to improve hardware reliability based on experience, best practices, test data, and/or analysis
  • Assist with hardware failure analysis and root cause investigations

What You’ll Need:

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in hardware reliability or failure analysis
  • Understanding of accelerated testing methods, governing equations, and physics of failure for different failure mechanisms
  • Experience partnering with engineering and manufacturing teams to identify issues and solve problems 
  • Hands-on experience assembling, disassembling, inspecting and modifying hardware
  • Working knowledge of a programming language (preferably Python) with ability to write and modify scripts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication to explain test plans, results, and recommendations to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Organization to plan and ensure follow through on complex test plans

Bonus:

  • Experience with electromechanical parts including servo actuators and brushless DC motors and knowledge of common failure modes
  • Competency using SQL to query relational databases
  • Experience with reliability statistics and relevant data analysis packages (e.g., Weibull++, JMP, MATLAB)
  • M.S./Ph.D. degree
  • Passion or interest in aviation
