Engineering Infrastructure team is a part of SUSE infrastructure department, driving the development infrastructure across the globe. We own and drive hundreds of machines and dozens of services and maintain big data centers in Nuremberg, Prague and Provo; the smaller setup exists in Beijing too.

The range is wide: from hardware and network maintenance to the application support, configuration management, complex monitoring, identity provider, mail and distribution lists. We work closely with the development and support openSUSE community. Our work, effectiveness and responsiveness are critical for the company wellbeing.

Our team is looking for an experienced automation engineer who will help us in further improvement and modernization.

Responsibilities:

  • Automate the environment deployment, maintenance. Transfer infrastructure to the code to turn classic infrastructure to a modern flexible one.
  • devise, build up, mount and keep an eye on instrumentation and control systems that sense, quantify and run functioning processes. This work differs from supervising extensive system projects to contributing know-how on particular portions.
  • devise specification and in-depth documentation for their design. Must be great trouble-shooters and must be up to date with the latest technology.
  • Automation Engineers makes sure that field devices, instrumentation systems, communication networks and interfaces are working properly.

Competencies:

  • Solid experience of production systems supports and maintenance.
  • Deep understanding of Linux operating systems and network stack, including protocols and services.
  • Virtualization and containerization technologies
  • Configuration management (SaltStack, Chef, Puppet…)
  • Version control systems (git)
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and system problem.
  • Scripting/development knowledge (bash, python, java/JS)
  • Quick and enthusiastic learner
  • Creative thinking skills
  • Detail-oriented personality
  • Ability to communicate well to other members both of the team and of the development teams.

Would be a plus:

  • Database and DB cluster knowledge
  • Experience with authentication systems (LDAP, nis, AD, kerberos, …)
  • Opensource projects contributions
  • Package management expertise
  • Previous development or DevOps experience
  • Public clouds knowledge (AWS, Azure, GoogleCloud…)
