An Inspiring Conversation with Sandrine: Breaking Barriers in the Tech Industry

In a recent interactive session, we had the privilege of speaking to Sandrine, the Regional Vice President and Head of Solution sale & Innovation for mid-market regions in India North Sap. She stands as a beacon of inspiration not only for women but for anyone aspiring to make a significant impact in the tech industry.

Trailblazing a Path Through Tech

Beginning her journey as an 'ordinary girl' tucked away in a quaint village in the south of France, Sandrine broke free from the societal norms of her time and embarked on a career journey that has seen her traverse industries and continents alike. Over the years, she has spearheaded the leadership of diverse teams and fostered growth and innovation in all sectors she's touched.

This intense drive is encapsulated perfectly in her current team under Sap, which boasts over 18 different nationalities and a majority female turnout, a fact that fills her with immeasurable pride. Through her direct leadership, the team houses individuals from varying backgrounds, refusing to limit the scope of potential solely to tech-savvy individuals.

The Importance of Diversity in Tech

Addressing the value of diversity, especially regarding non-tech oriented individuals, Sandrine emphasised its importance in fostering innovation and success. According to her, "Nobody can know everything. But together, using our collective differences and perspectives, makes us very powerful."

  • Collective Learning: Accentuating the importance of collective learning, she mentioned that everyday interactions within the team fuel the exploration of new possibilities and fresh ideas.
  • Customer-Centric Approach: Sandrine attributes the success of their customer-centric approach to the diversity within the team, which helps in understanding customers from diverging angles and generating solutions that cater to their specific needs.
  • Adaptability: With diversity at its core, a team is more flexible and competent in adapting to the dynamic landscape of the tech world.

Nurturing Success Within Diversity

When questioned about her strategy for ensuring the success of women and diverse individuals within her team, Sandrine highlighted the importance of open conversations, patient listening, and constant support. From inclusive recruitment practises to focussing on the individual journeys of her team members, she emphasised on creating a safe space that fosters growth and encourages learning from mistakes.

Empowering the Female Force

Offering advice to young women, Sandrine emphasized the importance of harnessing their unique capabilities, promoting fellow women, and standing strong in the face of adversity. She drives the point that in choosing the right person for a role, the experience and talent weigh far more than gender. However, she admits that if all things remain equal, her inherent desire to offset gender imbalance would lead her to choose a woman.

In conclusion, this conversation with Sandrine serves as a potent reminder of the power of diversity, perseverance and the on-going need for gender equality. It emphasizes the fact that no dream is too big - the only caveat being that one must be in the right company, milieu, and under the right leadership.

We hope you found this discussion as enlightening and inspiring as we did. Feel free to leave your questions for Sandrine in the comments section – we would be delighted to learn from your perspectives as well.

But uh we have the key guest speaker here. Um So we would love to introduce ourselves bit. So my name is Lynn.I am the chief of staff for Sandrine here uh from uh Sap and S uh Sandrine uh is the Regional Vice President, head of Solution sale and Innovation for uh mid market in the region. India, North uh uh Sap. Thank you everyone for, for joining. And I hope we will have a very, very interactive session. If you have any question, please feel free to put it in the chat as well. We will, we will be very happy to, to answer to all of your question. So uh we have like rebe some of the questions for, for Sandrine to, to answer so that we hope that we will bring the best message to you. So uh Sundin uh as a woman as a model and also as an inspirational force in the world of tech. Where did it all start?

Well, in um I began as an ordinary girl from a small corner of the south of France in these days, a girl was expected to live out the life in the village or stay within 200 miles of where you were born. However, I left my hometown without much support and started out on a career that has spanned many industries and countries. I have years of experience leading a diverse team. As you know, Lynn, our teams solution says an innovation in our region has more than 18 nationalities from four continents on board. And what makes me very proud of is that more than 60% of the team are women. We also have people from different generations and carry backgrounds, business people, communication, non techies. Yeah, like we have hea in the team who is a storyteller with a past in film and television, not everybody has a tech past. And I understand that it's more, it's not easy at the beginning, especially for women. And I'm passionate about helping them to succeed. I have experienced similar difficulties myself. The only woman in the team judge simply for being a woman. Wow.

Just simply for being a woman. Uh II, I am really fascinated by your interest in supporting non tech people uh in the video from different back generation and background. Why do you think that having such diversity within a team, especially women is important?

Yes. Well, in uh the value of non techie people should never be taken for granted. You know, what many of the most successful tech start ups are founded by non technical people. Uh I see diversity in our team. Uh as weine behind our success and innovation, nobody can know everything. But together using our collective differences and perspectives, makes us very powerful non techie people have their own skills and mindset that can bring you fresh ideas. Our innovation team is there to serve our customers, help them grow. If you want to truly understand your customers, you need to have respect for that diversity, to understand the world from their view. Every day, the individuals within our team learn from each other, innovate and discover new possibilities. Together. Diversity, encourages creativity and gives you the foundation you need to adapt to a changing world. Every time you look at a new challenge, you always manage to find a new way of delivering. It's all based on the collective intelligence you have in the team, each of us, we continue on that learning curve in the, in the safe space where you are allowed to fail and learn from your mistakes. That's very important.

You're always striving to think outside of a box and our diversity enables you, enables us to do that.

Wow. So how did you do? How did you do Exactly to have women and people from different background, success in within the community? Yes.

Yes. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Listening and open conversations are really key. It can be difficult at the beginning but always remind my team that no question is a bad question. If you are thinking about something, then other people could be thinking the same thing as well. So why not put it out question, drive innovation and provide information. They help the team understand the topic by exploration. It's dangerous not to treat the issue properly. You may end up with quality issues. What case scenario you deliver the wrong solution? I always have 1 to 1 with my team, listen to them and support them as much as possible. That helps non techies and techies always find their place within the team. We promote equity diversity and inclusion at every stage of the journey, starting with a recruitment, choosing the right person for a promotion. I also focus on having the right set up for each team member. Each individual is on their own journey as well as working to achieve a collective goals with trust in transparency. We ensure every team member is empowered, fully supported and most importantly, given an equal opportunity to achieve their full potential, you can make dream come true.

It's completely up to you. Don't let others decide on your dream. If you, I have a right person in the right company, you will have all you need to develop. No dream is big. It's too big. No,

that's a really meaningful thing to say uh to, to hear from you some like no dream is too big. Um So what would you say to young women for like me, for example? Now,

as a woman, we you learn from a very young age to do many things at the same time and adapt to change. Use a superpower and go where you want to go. My advice. As a woman, you should promote other women. Spend time for them with them, help them if somebody says there are too many female now. Well, at least, but inequality has been fixed. No one ever said that there are too many men in the workplace. Obviously, what a person brings to the table, regardless of the gender and so forth is the most important thing. Their experience and talent. That's the best foundation for a team leaders need to be aware of that. It's important to have a diversity of talents. I don't just promote women, I promote the right person. But if all other things are equal, I would probably choose a woman. And I'm one of those young women, if I can help them negotiate their journeys towards success in any way that makes me very happy.

Well, thank, thank you, Sabrina. This is a very, very nice conversation and especially to, to me as well as a young woman, um a part of your team. Uh And we need uh your leadership day by day. Uh Thank you everyone. Uh And thank you Sanin. Once again for the conversation, I hope is a very short concise but also inspiring and give you all of the information you may need. Uh If you want to have any question uh to Sanin, please feel free to put in the chat. We, we may stay here for five more minutes. Um So don't hesitate to put any question um in the chat in case you have, we're very happy to be, to be able to interact with you.

Thank you, Lynn.
